Grey / Black Water
Grey Water is the sum of waste waters which origins from the galley, showers, laundry etc at a ship, while Black Water simply is the sewage from the ship. At modern cruise ships, with up to 5000 passenger 1.000m3 -2.000m3 of such water is produced every day. The ships are today allowed to dump this directly in the sea after disinfection, however most places only outside the 200 nautical mile line from shore. Storage capacity at the ships does not allow for long stays inside this border, and increasingly stricter discharge limits are being implemented worldwide. Therefore the major cruise companies now upgrade their ships to meet future demands (2010 Alaska requirements as the strictest). On a ship, implementation of known treatment systems includes enormous structural changes and implementation challenges, as the ships already lack free space.
Sorbwater Technology AS has developed a robust system that handles all waste streams, and treats the water to meet the strictest demands (2010 Alaska Requirements) which requires extremely small space. The system is tested in small scale in cooperation with our commercial partner Mjørud AS under the surveillance of the Norwegian Bureau VERITAS.
